Es considerado uno de los más grandes cantantes en la historia de la música estadounidense y un artista seminal en la música soul y de rhythm and blues. Su estilo de canto procedía de la música gospel, el precedente de su género musical. Su estilo de canto influyó en muchos otros cantantes de soul de los años 1960. Durante su vida, sus grabaciones fueron producidas por Stax Records, establecida en Memphis, Tennessee.

Inspirado en sus orígenes por Charlie Parker, comenzó a tocar el saxofón alto a los 14 años y el tenor dos años después. Sus primeras experiencias musicales fueron en bandas texanas de R&B, entre las que estaban las de Red Connors y Pee Wee Crayton, pero su tendencia a ser original estilísticamente le granjeó hostilidades entre las audiencias y los músicos. Coleman se trasladó a Los Ángeles a comienzos de los cincuenta, donde trabajó como técnico de ascensores mientras estudiaba libros de música. Conoció a músicos con aspiraciones similares en cuanto a grala originalidad: Don Cherry, Charlie Haden, Ed Blackwell, Bobby Bradford, Charles Moffett y Billy Higgins, pero no fue hasta 1958 (tras numerosos intentos de tocar con los mejores músicos de Los Ángeles) en que Coleman consiguió un núcleo de artistas con los que poder tocar su música. Apareció durante un breve período como miembro del quinteto de Paul Bley en el Hillcrest Club y grabó dos discos para Contemporary. Con la ayuda de John Lewis, Coleman y Cherry entraron en la Lenox School of Jazz en 1959, y estuvieron durante un largo período en el Five Spot en Nueva York, etapa que alertó al mundo del jazz acerca de la llegada de una nueva y radical forma de hacer jazz. Oasis fue una banda de Rock inglesa ícono del Britpop, formada en Mánchester en 1991. En sus inicios, conocidos como The Rain, el grupo contaba en sus filas con el cantante Chris Hutton, el guitarrista Paul Arthurs, el bajista Paul McGuigan y el baterista Daniel Alexander, a los que más tarde se unirían, en 1990, Liam Gallagher en la voz y Tony McCarroll como batería. Los hermanos Gallagher fueron también reconocidos por sus constantes peleas entre sí y con otros grupos y artistas, como Blur y Robbie Williams, las cuales propiciaron su aparición en múltiples ocasiones en la prensa sensacionalista. Tras la deserción de Paul Arthurs, Paul McGuigan, y más tarde la expulsión de Alan White, la alineación final se completaría con el guitarrista Gem Archer, el bajista Andy Bell y el baterista Chris Sharrock, aunque finalmente el último miembro en abandonar el grupo, ocasionando así su disolución, fue Noel Gallagher.
En 2004, la edición española de la revista Rolling Stone colocó a Oasis en el puesto n.º 13 entre «Las 50 bandas más grandes de la historia del rock». En 2007, el grupo fue galardonado con el BRIT Award por su «notable contribución a la música». Dig Out Your Soul, su último álbum, vio su lanzamiento a principios de octubre de 2008.
El 28 de agosto de 2009, tras una fuerte discusión entre los hermanos Gallagher, Noel decidió abandonar el grupo poniendo punto final a una era. ?En diciembre del mismo año Liam anunció que el grupo continuaría grabando sin Noel.? Después de algunas especulaciones el grupo cambió su nombre por el de Beady Eye.

Ñu, también conocido como José Carlos Molina-Ñu, es un grupo español de rock formado en 1974 en Madrid. Su estilo, descrito en alguna ocasión como rock medieval, reúne elementos de música medieval, celta y heavy metal. Su fundador, José Carlos Molina (flautista y cantante), es el único miembro del grupo que ha permanecido durante toda la trayectoria del mismo.

Se ha señalado repetidamente la influencia de Jethro Tull y su líder, Ian Anderson, en el sonido y la imagen de la banda aunque su sonido, mucho más pesado que otros grupos de folk rock de la época, los ha consolidado como una banda pionera del folk metal español. A su vez, esta ha ejercido una influencia notable en grupos posteriores como Mägo de Oz.
La temática habitual del grupo se ha descrito como «historias de castillos y jinetes, villanos y héroes medievales».
El grupo nace de una banda anterior formada en 1972, Fresa, de la que formaban parte J.C. Molina y el guitarrista Rosendo Mercado. En 1974 el grupo pasó a llamarse Ñu. Su primer concierto fue el 16 de febrero de 1975. En 1976 se publicó, sin conocimiento del grupo, su primer disco, el sencillo «Que nadie escape de la evolución / Volando en sociedad». En 1978, Mercado abandonó el grupo para fundar su propia banda, Leño.
Los continuos cambios en la formación del grupo (hasta sesenta músicos distintos a lo largo de su discografía) se han puesto en relación con el carácter del líder del mismo, descrito por uno de sus críticos como «irascible, autosuficiente y poco diplomático». A pesar de los cambios de formación, el grupo ha recibido críticas que consideran su música «rock anclado en el pasado» y acusan a su líder de negarse a evolucionar.
