The Allman Brothers Band
The Allman Brothers Band fue una banda estadounidense de rock formada en 1969 en Jacksonville (Florida) por Duane Allman (guitarra), Gregg Allman (voz y órgano), Butch Trucks (batería), Berry Oakley (bajo) Jai Johanny «Jaimoe» Johanson (batería) y Dickey Betts (guitarra y voz). El grupo suele ser acreditado como el principal creador del rock sureño, aunque su música también incorpora elementos del blues, del jazz y del country, y sus actuaciones están orientadas hacia la improvisación instrumental.

Sus dos primeros álbumes de estudio apenas tuvieron repercusión, pero su trabajo en directo At Fillmore East (1971) representó un gran avance artístico y comercial. El disco incluye extensas versiones de sus temas «In Memory of Elizabeth Reed» y «Whipping Post» y a menudo está considerado como uno de los mejores álbumes en directo. Duane Allman falleció en un accidente de motocicleta poco tiempo después y la banda completó en su memoria Eat a Peach (1972), una recopilación de pistas de estudio y en directo que cimentó su popularidad.
