En 1983 escribió una canción con Michael Jackson, «I Never Heard», a la cual se le cambió el título en 2009 por «This Is It». Otra canción que escribió junto a Jackson en esa misma sesión fue «Love Never Felt So Good»; fue descubierta y sacada en el disco Xscape en 2014. Johnny Mathis también sacó esta canción en 1984.

Anka se convirtió en un ciudadano naturalizado en Estados Unidos en 1990.

Paul Anka grabó su primer sencillo «I Confess» a los 14 años. En 1957 se fue a Nueva York con 100$ que le había dado su tío. Allí Anka hizo una entrevista para Don Costa, el director artístico y de repertorio de ABC, en la cual le cantó lo que se creía que era un verso lleno de amor para una antigua niñera. En una entrevista con Terry Gross de NPR en 2005, Anka confesó que los versos estaban dedicados hacia una chica de su iglesia que apenas conocía.
