Jeff Beck

Geoffrey Arnold “Jeff” Beck (Wallington, Gran Londres, 24 de junio de 1944) es un guitarrista inglés de rock/blues que ha tocado en varias bandas influyentes en las décadas de 1960 y 1970. Es uno de los tres notables guitarristas que tocaron en The Yardbirds, siendo Eric Clapton y Jimmy Page los otros dos. Durante 25 años ha mantenido una esporádica carrera en solitario. A pesar de no haber alcanzado nunca la proyección comercial de sus contemporáneos, Beck ha tenido un gran reconocimiento, especialmente en la comunidad de guitarristas. Comenzó su carrera musical con un breve paso por la Escuela de Arte de Wimbledon, Londres. Se ganó la reputación apoyando a Lord Sutch, quien le ayudó a buscar trabajo como guitarrista líder de los Yardbirds, tras la salida de Eric Clapton. Beck permaneció en los Yardbirds durante casi dos años dejándolos a finales de 1966 con la disculpa de abandonar la música.

Volvió meses más tarde con Love is Blue, un single en el cual tocó mal adrede porque odiaba la canción. Más adelante, en 1967, formó The Jeff Beck Group con el vocalista Rod Stewart, el bajista Ron Wood y el baterista Aynsley Dunbar, sustituido rápidamente por Mickey Waller, y el teclista Nicky Hopkins, agregado a principios de 1968. Con sus potentes arreglos de temas de blues y sus intercalamientos de guitarra y voz, Jeff Beck estableció las bases del heavy metal. Ninguno de los discos de la banda como Truth (1968) o Beck-Ola (1969) (grabado con el nuevo baterista Tony Newman) fueron particularmente exitosos. Para cuando se recuperó en 1971, Bogert y Appice estaban tocando en Cactus, así que el guitarrista formó una nueva versión del Jeff Beck Group con el tecladista Max Middleton, el baterista Cozy Powell, el bajista Clive Chapman y el vocalista Bobby Tench, la banda grabó Rough and Ready (1971) y Jeff Beck Group (1972).
