Al Jarreau

Alwyn López “Al” Jarreau (Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Estados Unidos, 12 de marzo de 1940), es un cantante estadounidense de jazz. Se distingue por su versatilidad y originalidad, y por su apertura a diferentes estilos (soul, rhythm and blues, pop…) e influencias diversas (Nat King Cole, especialmente).

Ganador de varios Grammys, su voz se hizo popularmente conocida al interpretar el tema central de la serie de televisión en los 80 Luz de luna.

Al Jarreau simultaneó desde niño su interés por la música con los estudios de psicología, que a la postre constituiría su primera profesión, al ejercer en San Francisco como rehabilitador durante cuatro años ayudando a gente con problemas de alcoholismo, drogas, esclerosis múltiple o amputaciones.

Musicalmente, su primera experiencia musical la tuvo en el grupo The Indigos, un grupo de aficionados que se sentían influidos por Lambert, Hendricks y Ross, y otros vocalistas.

Posteriormente, se unió al trío del teclado George Duke, con el que tocaba por las noches en el Club Half Note, tras trabajar por el día en su profesión.

Ayudado por los productores Tommy LiPuma y Al Schmitt consiguió editar sus primeros discos.
